CHARLES TOUHEY ELECTED TO SAINT ROSE BOARD
Charles Touhey
The College of Saint Rose has announced the election of Charles Touhey of Albany to the College’s board of trustees.
Touhey is managing partner of The Latham Four Partnership, where he oversees more than 1 million square feet of offices, distribution facilities and apartments in Pennsylvania, New York, Texas, Florida and Arizona. He is a member of the National Association of Realtors and has developed several subdivisions using such innovations as modular housing. Touhey also is the vice president of Orange Motor Company, Albany’s oldest and largest Ford dealer, as well as the president of The Square Room Inc., a mini-storage facility with more than 3,000 units.
As a community housing advocate, Touhey is committed to rehabilitating and restoring neighborhoods. In 1981, he designed and constructed a new “In-Fill” prototype, which resulted in the development of more than 785 units of housing in New York. For 10 years, he was the director of Capital Housing of Albany, a nationally recognized housing rehabilitation and home ownership program. In 2002, he was selected by Mayor Jerry Jennings to serve a key role in the Arbor Hill Revitalization Task Force. As chairman of the board of the Albany Center for Economic Success (ACES), a small-business incubator, he assists women and minority entrepreneurs in starting up their new enterprises. Touhey also is supervising the construction of 50 new owner-occupied two-family homes in Arbor Hill. Funding of $1 million is provided by the Touhey Homeownership Foundation. For his community revitalization work, Touhey was awarded the City of Albany Human Rights Award in 1993.
Touhey received his master’s degree in Africana studies from the University at Albany and a bachelor’s degree in history and modern romance languages from Princeton University. Touhey will serve a three-year term through May 2008.
The College of Saint Rose board of trustees consists of 36 members who serve three-year terms. In accordance with the College’s by-laws, two-thirds of the trustees are lay leaders and one-third are Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet, the sponsors of the College.
